My brother and his wife left my mother at the airport and flew away on vacation—I had to teach them a very hard lesson.

When my brother and his wife decided to take a week-long vacation, I was surprised. For the first time in a long while, he wanted to bring our mother with them. It seemed like concern and compassion had returned to his voice. But I knew his wife—a woman with a difficult character—was against the idea. Mom had been using a wheelchair for some time, and I overheard my sister-in-law trying to convince her brother that the trip would be “too inconvenient.”

“You understand we can’t take care of your mother the whole vacation,” she said. “Let’s do it another time…”

But my brother insisted. Anxious yet determined, I helped Mom get ready. We carefully packed her things, saw them off at the airport, and said our goodbyes. Mom smiled, genuinely happy that her son hadn’t forgotten her.

Only half an hour later, my phone rang.

“Mom? Why are you calling? You should have taken off already!”

“They flew away… without me,” she said, her voice trembling.

“They said I was with them, but when they went to board, my sister-in-law said she’d check us in first and then come back for me. She just… disappeared. Then I saw them through the window—they flew away. And I was left. Alone.”

I could hardly believe it. I raced back to the airport. There she was, sitting in the waiting room with her suitcase, still in her coat, tearful and bewildered. I hugged her tightly, furious at how cruelly she had been treated.

Later, I discovered that my sister-in-law had lied to my brother, claiming Mom was already on the plane and fine. He had sat there, completely unaware that his mother had been abandoned. Convenient, isn’t it? Rid yourself of the burden while appearing caring.

It was then that I knew I had to teach this impudent woman a lesson—to show that an elderly person should never be treated like this.

While they were on vacation, I spoke to Mom. Without hesitation, she signed over the house to me—a legal and fair gesture.

“You are my daughter,” she said. “I know you would never leave me at the airport like unwanted luggage.”

The house was officially ours.

A week later, my brother and his wife returned, tanned, cheerful, and carrying a stack of vacation photos. I met them at the door.

“Take your things and go. Live somewhere your ideas of family still matter. This place is no longer for you.”

My sister-in-law screamed. My brother tried to explain. But it was too late.

Mom sat by the window, drinking tea. And this time, her smile was real.
